Could you mention the spirit foxes you know please? The best known is Su Daji, and I know the story of Jade Fox (she's so cool. She fought Erlang), but I've wanted to know more. I also knows about the fox spirits from Strange tales from a Chinese studio.
JTTW fox spirits die so fast sadly.
JTTW foxes are like the Red Shirts of demons
The earliest "maybe" fox spirit is Yu the Great's wife, the Girl of Tushan. Basically, when he arrived at Tushan, he saw a nine-tailed fox, heard the locals singing about it, and decided to marry a girl there.
There are two readings of the text: 1) the fox is just an auspicious sign from Heaven, telling Yu to get married, and 2) the fox is an avatar, or transformation of the Girl of Tushan. Later Qing legends certainly favor the second reading, with foxes referring to themselves as the descendents of Tushan.
The other "maybe" fox spirit is Chunhu("Pure Fox"), Houyi's wife. Now, I heard you asking: "But wait! Isn't Houyi's wife Chang'e?" Well...there are actually two "Yi" in Chinese mythos-history.
The "Yi" people are most familiar with, who shot down the Sun Crows, supposedly lived in the time of Sage King Yao, while the "Yi" married to Chunhu was from the Xia dynasty.
(Rough timeline: Yao —> Shun —> Yu the Great —> his son Qi, founder of the Xia dynasty)
Basically, Houyi usurped Qi's son, Tai Kang, and seized his throne, then Han Zhuo usurped and killed him while he was out hunting.
According to 左传 + Qu Yuan's 天问 and 离骚, Chunhu played a vital part in this: a dark-skinned beauty, she was originally Hebo's wife, until Houyi killed her husband with an arrow and forcefully seized her, then she plotted with Han Zhuo to murder Houyi and became his wife.
Since Chunhu could also be written as Xuanhu("Dark Fox"), some scholars suggested that her clan might have used a black fox as their totem or worshipped such a divine beast. Unlike the Girl of Tushan, the implication of her being an actual fox wasn't as strong, but she did fit into that "plotting temptress" stereotype that would later be connected to fox spirits.
There is this one strange trivia in the Northern-Southern dynasty 搜神记 that goes: "All foxes come from this one slutty woman in ancient times called Ah Zi(阿紫), who turned into a fox, therefore fox spirits often refer to themselves with that name too."
The Ming dynasty novel, 三遂平妖传, is all about this family of foxes and how they were behind Wang Ze's failed rebellion in the Song dynasty: "Sagely Old Lady", her daughter Hu Mei'er/Yong'er, and her son Hu Chu'er/Zuo Chu.
When they passed Wu Zetian's tomb, her ghost appeared in Sagely Old Lady's dream, telling her that she would soon reincarnate into a male body, and that Mei'er is actually the reincarnation of her paramour, Zhang Liulang, and they promised to be husband and wife in every life.
When she woke up, Mei'er was missing, so she just went on and cultivated 72 Daoist arts using the Heavenly Scroll this Egg Monk guy stole from a cave. Meanwhile, Mei'er landed in an enunch's garden, was adopted as his daughter, tried to charm the Crown Prince by disguising herself as a consort and got insta-killed by Guan Yu the guardian deity.
She reincarnated again as Yong'er, and reunited with Sagely Old Lady and her brother, who taught her Daoist arts and began to plot a rebellion. They managed to convince Wang Ze, a minor official, into leading it——who just happened to be Wu Zetian's reincarnation, so naturally Yong'er married him.
Alas, their rebellion was not to be: Egg Monk, disgusted by their behaviors, left to seek help from the Mystic Lady of the Nine Heavens, and, with the arts she taught, crushed the rebels.
Yong'er and Zuo Chu got struck dead by divine thunderbolts, while Sagely Old Lady was spared thanks to her fellow heavenly foxes' pleadings, but sentenced to guard the Heavenly Scroll forever.
This wouldn't be the first time Wu Zetian was associated with foxes: in the Qing dynasty novel, Flowers in the Mirror(镜花缘), she straight up is the Heart Moon Fox(心月狐) incarnate, one of the 28 Lunar Mansions.
She reincarnated because the two Sui emperors kept complaining in the Underworld about how they were usurped by the Tang, until the Celestial Court went "Okay, fine, we'll send one of our own to usurp the Tang dynasty too. Happy?"
Which, like Daji, is very much in line with the "A powerful woman? *gasp* She must be a fox demoness!" literary tradition.

#音乐剧时光代理人# <- 'Time Agents Musical' main tag, pictures tab - shows majority of stage pictures in chronological order, updates from official Encore Musicals show up here too.
Tips: 1) Visit the OP's profiles! They usually post more than the one photo you can see in a thumbnail. And it's easier to browse & save pics through the profile.
2) Even though you can scroll the pics tab indefinitely, without a weibo account you won't be able to easily access older posts, as they'll get buried under the user's newer posts (there's a roundabout way mentioned in my guide). So I recommend to visit this tag frequently, if you wanna be sure nothing is hidden away 🔍 Daily or once in a 2-3 days will be enough imo, it's not very crowded tag ^^
3) ⬆You can also check videos in this tag, the orange tab has 10 most recent clips from the musical (other one has the most popular ones).
接着奏乐接着舞Musicals (Encore Musicals) <- official profile of a theatre that runs LC stage, they post the cast schedules, photos/behind the scenes clips, whenever new actor debuts, there's a special guests or a cast member has a birthday. They also report when an actor goes on a health break. Tip: all LC actors can be found in the pinned post (you'd need OCR 'image-text' tool to copy their names from pics though)
Encore Musicals Bilibili account <- theatre's official profile on a major cn video-sharing platform (more bts clips)
动画师lan <- bonus link to studio LAN profile, that's where they post the mysterious animation frames~

A few actors for supporting cast don't have a tag bc they seem to be newbie actors and/or have very small online presence
Tips: 1) Without a weibo account you can scroll through the actor's tag only up to abt 45 most recent posts. The actors perform in multiple plays (duh) so non-LC photos will show up too.
2) Imo the most optimal method, so the limits won't stop you is: go to the main 'LC musical' tag and see what's new. Check schedule for the cast lineup in a recent performance. Go to the actors' tags to see what's new.
3) Sometimes there are 2 performances on a same day, with different actors. So don't be surprised if you find mixed lineups under one date.
4) Mostly QL and Lin Zhen's actresses post behind the scenes photos on their personal profiles. Don't bother looking up the guys accounts, unless it's a holiday or their b-day >< From what I remember, only Wu Yihan posts abt his cat. Zhang Jiahao and Zhou Bobo post selfies sometimes. Ji Xiaokun posts his own photography (he's good!).
5) Google translate, however broken, is enough to translate the captions, so use it for context✨Ppl sometimes give their reviews titled 'repos' from the stage they've seen 🙏
6) You'll find more musical related clips under the actor's tag, than in 'LC musical' main tag. It's usually in an actor's fancam, but not always. Useful when you like an actor or there was a particular moment you want to see from a different angle🌟👌
7) The clips tab (one in the middle) under the actor's tag has no time limited access. You can browse and watch the videos without issues!
______________________________________________________
I'll try to add missing tags when the actors debut 💪 And if you find any mistakes or a broken links, please let me know 🙏 For those who read it all, here's a present ;>
光时 <- bonus Shiguang ship tag, they're just like us fr (but way more horny on main), there's lots of art, from cute fluff to nsfw djs >>

WHAT LOVING HIM FEELS LIKE .ᐟ
✩ — includes: nxx men x gn!reader. reader is not rosa. fluff <3. no cws. wc: 589. please reblog !! it would help a real lot. jinghe = marius, xia yan = luke, mo yi = vyn, zuo ran = artem (just to avoid confusion!).
lu jinghe — !
the times where he would endlessly tease you until no end, the smirk that you oh so wanted to wipe off of his face still stitched onto his features as his confidence was very much loud between the two of you. loving lu jinghe can be quite messy. the times where you’d stay in his studio watching him paint and you hadn’t realized that you dozed off until he shook your shoulders to wake you up. or the times where you’d get mad at his idiotic teasing as he continuously apologized to you.
although loving him can be messy, it can also be nice and caring. the small moments where he would softly smile at you while you two were on a small date in a dessert shop, you could already sense the love he holds for you through that small glint in his eyes if you stared back at him.
xia yan — !
sweet as candy and as affectionate as he can be. that’s how he loves you; you’d never leave his mind if you two were far from each other. he’d try to spend a lot of time with you; who wouldn’t want so many memorable moments with their beloved? the little instances where you would randomly bump into each other on the street and soon spend the rest of your time together, whether it was just watching films with cuddles or just playing around in xia yan’s antique shop.
sweet, is how you would describe what loving xia yan feels like. the excitement in your chest when you see him means that you know that you will have a great time with him again today. but there will also be a few butterflies in your stomach as he makes you blush, but he blushes harder than you.
mo yi — !
as much as he enjoys music, loving mo yi is like playing the same track over and over again. it’s a never ending feeling of joy and fondness you hold for each other. even if you replayed this track, you still wouldn’t get tired of it. no matter how much you two bond over music, it doesn’t matter because your favorite track will still be his expression of appreciation for you.
the track containing his soft words of confession towards you—how could you get tired of it? it’d make your heart flutter every time. although most flowers would wilt, you, being his rose in his heart, would never dwindle, for he would cherish it with the utmost care and love it more than anything. the rose in his heart could never wilt like other flowers, could it?
zuo ran — !
a balloon making it’s way up in the air before slowly popping. it’s how zuo ran’s heart would explode every time he was with you. he wonders how a person like you could be with him, but he isn’t complaining. he’s quite grateful that he’s got someone like you with him. the blush creeping up to his cheeks as you fix his tie because it was messy while the two of you are alone at his office is something that he can’t quite control as he tries to regain his composure and stop himself from stuttering.
loving zuo ran would be a nice feeling. a bit cliché during some moments, but overall, it’s just a nice feeling to have. delicate feelings in each other’s hands, his being with yours, and vice versa. it was fragile—this was fragile. but hey, there’s a first time for everything, right?

20221210 袁一琦 Yuan Yiqi's Birthday Message to 左婧媛 Zuo Jingyuan
My beloved Zuozuo: Happy birthday! Initially, I was supposed to sing a duet with you for your birthday stage, it’s a shame that I missed this opportunity. I don’t know if your performance went smoothly. In my eyes, you have always been a little kid who does things her own way. You always say things that I didn’t think of and make points that cause me to laugh. Even though we will argue with one another, you are still my good friend. When I first got to know you, you weren’t in Shanghai yet. At that time, we were always looking for opportunities to meet up but you were always the first to know what was going on in my life and you would send me text me to talk about it. Now that you have come to Shanghai, there are many people that care for you which makes me feel relieved. I used to worry about you constantly but now I feel extremely relieved. I still remember the first time I celebrated your birthday with you: You were crying secretly in the dance studio in Shanghai. At that time, I came to visit with you with cake but you didn’t want to be caught crying. Now, I feel that you have a sense of stability. To me, a person doesn’t have a definite destination in their life, so there also aren’t places where people are meant to stay for long. This may be another rest stop for you but I still hope that you are happier here than before. I used to advise you often, saying: You need to be calm, you need to think clearly, you shouldn’t do this, you shouldn’t do that, you should do this, you should do that. But now I realize that you are not so burdened. You do what you want to do, you say what you want to say, making sure you live well should be your first priority. You shouldn’t care about others’ opinions, so I hope that you will focus on your own happiness instead. When you eat, make sure to eat well. Work hard but also rest well and treasure the people who love you. If you have some free time, play well. Be yourself, do what you want to do [T/N1]. If you are willing to change, you will become a seed. When you stay true to yourself, you will become a special cactus [T/N2]. I love you~ When I’m back, let's play together. Remember to relax~
T/N1: It’s unclear to me what YBY said so I am unable to translate that phrase, although the entire sentence is to the effect of “do what you want to do”.
T/N2: YYQ literally says “special cactus” here, my assumption is that it is because cacti are able to defend themselves due to their thorns.

#ohh i never knew this was the case as a donghua only damn #also op oftentimes the animation budget isnt the best indicator for how a story flows #some productions have the writers take only a few weeks to write out an entire season so they can pass it on to the next line of production #unfortunately even if a show has beautiful animation the budget might not be allocated to the writers #tho it might be different for an already established donghua.. #theres also the case where the actual staff of the show might not be intricately familiar with the source material #tldr: the way the story was presented all comes down to the writers and directors #i also didnt realize the novel was rly lighthearted lol the donghua was veery political mystery
—tags via @fernguard
Yeah, that makes sense. Writers often get the short end of the stick in the industry :(
And in regards to the You Yao donghua, the novel still has political mystery, of course, but that was only in the later part of the story. In the beginning, it focused more on the characters’ relationships.
In the donghua, they skipped scenes showing Lou Zhou’s attachment to Zuo Yunqi, but the importance of their relationship and the complexity to LZ’s character was still shown, so it’s fine. (I just don’t like how ZYQ looks like a kid next to LZ 🥲. He’s already an adult, and they’re a pair!!!)
They also removed a very important plotline in regards to Zhou Rongqi and Li Ke’s relationship. But since it’s hinted in the ending song, they probably just moved it to season 2. I can understand why they did this, though. It will be hard to tie up season 1 nicely with it included.
Aaaah I really wanna ramble some more, but that’s gonna make this post long jhjfhjfhdj.
Anyways, to tie this up, I think adaptations would be better if studios don’t simply look at the source material as a piece of tapestry they can cut around and rearrange as they see fit. I’d rather they try to weave their own version from scratch instead, with the source as merely a guide.
The You Yao novel had used the Chekhov’s firing squad approach in telling the story; whereas, the donghua used a more traditional three-act structure. And although the donghua was more serious and had changed a lot of things, it was still as funny and enjoyable as the novel
What is with some anime adaptations reordering entire scenes and chapters from the source??? Like, I get cutting out some scenes to make stuff fit in an episode, but moving around the intricate threads the original author had woven into a beautiful tapestry and for what???? Just to make it look a tangled mess???
The storytelling in the Moriarty the Patriot anime was all over the place, so I decided to read the manga from the beginning, and there it was normal and written a way a writer would actually do it
In the Mo Dao Zu Shi novel, the main plot was in the present timeline, and flashbacks were purposefully placed throughout the story whenever necessary. It was a very beautiful arrangement, but then the donghua butchered it up by, for some reason, gathering all the flashbacks and presenting them in chronological order. It was horrible. The flashbacks aren't that hard to follow, and people aren't stupid. I still don't get why they did that
I understand that different mediums require different techniques, but in the examples above, I see no advantages at all.
#anyways i really recommend reading the you yao novel. english title is “are you okay” and i think it’s fully translated#it gives you a different experience so it doesn’t feel redundant#xie liang’s arc relies heavily on internal monologue and they aren’t able to show that in the donghua#the donghua still made it very funny#but i promise you it’s funnier in the novel when you get to read his thoughts#animation#anime#adaptations#long post#miyamiwu.meta#miyamiwu.src

Bamboo Pavilion by ZUO STUDIO Fengyuan Huludun Park, Taichung,Taiwan My dad and I took a long afternoon stroll at Huludun Park just to see this beaut! The lush gardens and the river we passed by were all inviting and packed with tourists, but we didn’t stroll leisurely because we’re not sure how far the Pavilion is from the entrance (trust me, it was a looong walk and I was anxious about him getting too tired). But after having climbed the last bridge and finally seeing the vertex of its curvature, all my anxiety vanished! We marveled at the intricacies of the Pavilion’s design until it was sunset, when the lights went on which rendered the structure even more wonderful.
I read this ArchDaily feature long before this trip; that’s how it made it to our itinerary. Read on to know more.

Beginning of April summary, part 3
(Cai Qi & Guo Hongxu lineup debut 🐥🦁 and Cao Muzhi & Wu Yihan what are you doing wh-)
Finally caught up 🙏 (not for long ;w;)
Links in replies: cq&ghx encore from 'You can forget about it' till the bows
April 6th, noon: Cai Qi, Guo Hongxu, Zuo Yiping
Their first time performing in LC together (though I'm pretty sure they already knew each other from other shared plays, like 白夜追凶). They fit together pretty well imo. Cai Qi managed to make 'The Poker Face' Guo Hongxu break character and laugh during 'You can forget about it'. Just by closely staring at him ><
For once cq plays rock paper scissors normally, but cheats on the last hand >< They just stand there, paper vs paper, and slap their hands (though I wish I knew what ghx says in the end bc it makes audience and cq laugh)
Also hello! Zuo Yiping looking ethereal here✨
That concludes all Cai Qi lineups 👌
April 6th, night: Cao Muzhi, Wu Yihan, Feng Xinyao
There weren't many clips from that performance, but from pictures I've gathered
Wu Yihan simply leaned in to say something to Cao Muzhi but the photographers run with it (understandable).
For 'You can forget about it' wyh took a sip of... audience said it's vinegar. (culinary tangent ahead)
Most probably it's black rice vinegar (correct me if not) according to wikipedia '½ tablespoon of Western distilled white vinegar is stated to be equivalent in strength to 1 tablespoon Chinkiang vinegar'. So it's more delicate? Which explains why they are able to drink it without flinching and sing afterwards. Idk about you guys, but vinegars we use in Poland (apple cider vinegar or vine one) are absolutely vile to smell, moreso drink. So it bothered me so much that the actors just casually drink it during encore and don't choke >< (tangent over)
Next block of performances starts tommorow (April 12-15) with tcp&wmh ^^ I figured it works for me to cover the musical during the breaks when nothing happens (bc I have time to gather materials). If you get FoMo, then I'm faster on twt @/niebo_sgdlr 💙

Tears of Themis: Ancient China Event SSR Translations
Event PV
Xia Yan/Luke Pearce [Dreamland Drama]: Today, I will make sure you understand what this wandering knight with a silver-saddled horse is made of!
The warrior walks forward, his scent lingering and sleeves fluttering. The warmth of home can only be found by each others’ sides - “I had a dream where we sat facing each other, like we are now. You wore a red veil...”
*Note 1: The “silver-saddled horse” is a reference to the poem 少年行 “Journey of the Youth” by Li Bai. It describes a bold young man’s carefree journey.
*Note 2: The second line contains a reference to the poem 侠客行 “Journey of the Knight” by Li Bai. The poem describes knights in a fairly admiring way - someone who strives to help the troubled and cares not for fame and fortune.
Zuo Ran/Artem Wing [Vine-tangled Wilderness]: As long as you do not leave the Mansion of the Xiezhi… not a single soul shall know the truth.
A beautiful man, with clear eyes and a fair forehead. Inseparable forever after learning about each other - “I... will not let you leave. I will have you stay by my side, forever.”
*Note: Both his title and the second of his lines above reference to the anonymously-written Chinese poem 野有蔓草 (which is exactly the name of his card). It describes of a sudden, simplistic encounter between a man and a woman in the fields.
Mo Yi/Vyn Richter [Glorious Union]: To me, your existence is like a singular star in an eternal night. But I would rather see that single instant of light and bear the thousands and thousands of years of darkness thereafter.
On the lush peach trees, flowers bloom vividly. Silhouettes in a dream entangle together - “I will fulfill any wish as long as it is yours, so don’t be afraid, alright?”
*Note: The second line’s references to the peach blossoms come from an anonymously-written poem called 桃夭, which writes of a young lady’s happy married future. The name of the card also consists of characters in the poem - with 灼华于归 being the name of the card, the adjectives 灼 and 华 translated as “Glorious” here, while 于归, translated roughly as “Union” here, more accurately refers to a soon-to-be bride.
Lu Jinghe/Marius von Hagen [Painting Studio Spring]: Stay behind with me. From now on, you will gradually lose all your memories of the mortal world... until only I remain in your world.
The dimming lights far away cast a faint light on a long-sought partner - “What if I said that I liked you, and wanted to spend my whole life with you?”
*Note: My understanding on this subject is rather tenuous, but it seems that what’s been translated to “Painting Studio Spring” (画堂春) is a form of rhythm or music to which poems are composed, and is involved in the composition of many poems.
#Tears of Themis#tears of themis translations#xia yan#luke pearce#zuo ran#artem wing#mo yi#vyn richter#marius von hagen#lu jinghe#so much poetry oh god
